Re: model 14 safety
What you have seen is known as a thumb-nail-safe. It shows up around 1919 and is gone after 1920. It is factory and was a production change. Some TNS guns were converted to the cross bolt safe after production. Most have the plug where the cross bolt safe is normally fround. The TNS is not extremely...

Re: Case hardening color at rear of model 14 action bar??
Glad you got a good one! When you look at a rifle like that, you can't help but think about whitetails.

Re: Case hardening color at rear of model 14 action bar??
Wiktor I have noticed that even on guns that have color showing, they are not all the same. My opinion is that the heat treatment didn't always end at the exact same place. One other things that I seem to remember is that the treatment process was changed within the first two or three years. Rem 141...

Re: Case hardening color at rear of model 14 action bar??
I have seen this on Model 14 Remingtons that have not been shot very much. What I think you are seeing is the result of the heat treatment process used for the actionbar. The treatment was no used the full length of the bar. This means the blueing "takes" differently in the area that was h...

Re: Some help with an 1100
This information was found in the NRA American Rifleman Magazine (Aug, 1977 Page 56) Remington has revised its 20ga. Lightweight Model 1100 autoloading shotgun to improve its durability. The change makes the new LT-20 mechanically like the 12-ga Model 1100. The LT-20 model may be recognized by the e...

Re: Model 14 rear sight question... good pics added!
The DG 3 date is a problem as a date code followed by the number 3 means the rifle was repaired at the factory on that date. A check of the factory list of sn for the Model 14 indicates the receiver was made in 1930. I don't have all my records but I don't think any model 14 rifles were made after 1...

Re: After Cleaning 1100 won't fire
CastinBlast Since the "Feed Latch" came loose, it needs to be staked back in place (special tool recommended). So now would be a good time to take it to a repair center. One other thing you might want to check is the "firing pin". Remove the bolt and look through the bottom to se...

Re: Which of the following is more powerful?
Seems to me the idea of a forum is to exchange information. I think that is what has been done here. Whish we had more of this but on collecting issues.

Re: Which of the following is more powerful?
The collecting remak, if you read it, says enough with the ballistics talk. It has nothing to do with collecting.

Re: Which of the following is more powerful?
Remington600 Well, I have to disagree about the 6MM on varmints. I've shot several P dogs and woodchucks out to 500plus this year and none got up and move off. Dead is dead and the 105gr AMAX does as much damage as anything else. Another reason to study terminal ballistics. You have to match the bul...

Re: Which of the following is more powerful?
MCHUTTON Energy for firearms is measured in Foot/Pounds. Exterior ballistic tables printed by the makers will show the amount of energy over the range of the cartridge and load. It is more impotaint to match the caliber with what you are using the rifle for than just getting the most powerful cartri...

Re: Mod 81 in .300 Savage
Rifleman Seems to me that saying guns are for shooting not collecting is like saying money is for spending not saving. It also begs the question of why are you on this site if you beleive that? I also disagree that changing the site won't reduce the value of the rifle in question. When I stared coll...

Re: Model 8 and 81 Caliber Designations
There were some early Model 8s that were marked 30-30 Remington, and Remington did sell ammunition (along with others) marked 30-30 Remington. This ammunition is 30 Remington. It is confusing to most but remember the 30 Remington is rimless. As far as I know the 25-35 marking is unknown to me as any...

Re: MODEL 11 HELP PLEASE UPDATE!
MKCJ In my opinion the engraving is not factory. The wood is not facory. From the pictures, the job is nicely done. If you were to find an engraver, and have the same work done today, the work would cost you much more than $500. The shotgun alone is worth a good percentage of your $500. If you want ...
