Re: Model 31S, how rare?
I picked up this odd but high conditions 20 gauge 31 with a Cutts. The barrel is marked Skeet Choke and is a plain barrel. Gun dates 1949. While the foend appears to be original the stock does not, but for $300 out the door I'm still pleased. http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/medium/31211.jpg http://w...

Re: LW 20 ribs
Well, that is interesting as both of these barrels date codes indicate 1978 as well. The one other gun I know of had a barrel date of 72 I believe which would have been the first year of the LW 20s I believe. Obviously they made both for a period, but I wonder why the two types of ribs? I know it's ...

LW 20 ribs
I recently picked up a T series 20 gauge 870 LW with two barrels. One is a 26" 2 3/4" IC and the other a 28" 3" Full choke. It's a LW MAGNUM but the stock was Mahogany and most interesting is that the ribs are flat. Not solid but with no rise what so ever. I have seen one other g...

Re: dom for my remington 17
Your 17 has no barrel code because it's a 1921 and that was the year they started putting the codes on. I had a low number 17 and it was the same. This was also the first year of production.

Re: VERY early 870 -- four digit serial number -- questions
I have two 1950 870s, one is an ADL in 98% condition, and I paid 200 for the corn cob and 225 for the ADL with the matt barrel. What makes yours interesting is that it is pre "Wingmaster" marking. But I don't know that that will bring much more money wise. Now if it had a 26" barrel...

870 and ducks
Just sharing a picture of my 1950 Wingmaster with a 1960 skeet barrel and a few ducks for the pot. I have the original matted barrel but chose the skeet barrel for close in woodies. I picked this as new Wingmaster up for $225 and have added two barrels since. I think these older guns are the best va...

870 special field
What years were the 870 special field guns made. My 20g has the 23" barrel and I was told this was one of the last years. The serial number is B4324xxU

Re: 870 w/Serial No. On The Barrel???
I have two first year field 870s one with a ribbed forend and plain barrel gun, the other a diamond checkered gun with matted plain barrel and they both have barrels with matching serial numbers. I had a 53 Trap that had matching numbers as well. I have another barrel that dates 55 but has no serial...

Re: Question for Early Wingmaster 870's Gurus
I have two 1950 guns #24xxx and #25xxx, the earlier one being the plain gun with ringed forend and the later an ADL with the cut checkering and matted plain barrel. Neither gun is marked as AP or ADL. The ADL is one of the finest guns I have ever shot and my best shooting at skeet and SCs have been ...

Why no 26" 870s
I have two 1950 870s and for the life of me can't find a plain 26" barrel. I would pay a premium for a matted plain barrel but I can't even find a plain 1950s or 60s 26" barrel. Corsons told me too many were cut down for home defense! Could this be true? Has anyone ever seen a matted plain...

Jay,
Thanks, obviously not all 1921 guns had barrel marks!
