Re: 6.8 spc ,,,,
Most info on 6.8 SPC will be found on AR15 forums. I have not hunted with the 6.8; but I shoot it in a Stag Arms 7H AR15 based rifle. It shoots a 115 gr .270 cal bullet at 2600+ fps accurately out to 300 yds and is easy to reload. Recoil in the AR platform is not much more than .223. People report o...

Re: Reloading Question
I would try the re-sized brass in your gun one at a time to check on the ridge. If it fits the next firing should take care of any ridge. You can easily make .25 rem brass from 30 rem brass. I usually anneal the 30 rem brass, re-size then trim the bras to the correct length and reload. Reed ammo.com...

Re: Reloading Question
A few points about loading 25 rem. You need to keep an eye on case length after re-sizing the brass will lengthen with firing and re-sizing. Use the 25-35 case length step on a Lyman case length gage or measure with calipers and trim to the correct spec. You can use a Lee Factory crimp die for 250 S...

Re: Need help with 1917 model rifle
I'll take a stab at your problem. If your gun says it is a model 1917, it is probably a surplus model 1917 which should be in 30-06. It should have a military stock and the rear sight should have "ears". Check wikipedia for a picture. If the rifle has a regular or sporter style stock it ha...

Re: Model 14 - First Firing Questions
You do not need to cycle the action to load the magazine! The button release is so you can empty the chamber without firing the gun. The magazine can be loaded with or without putting a round in the chamber or cycling the action. Yes, with pump action guns after you fire a shot you pull the pump bac...

Re: Model 14 - First Firing Questions
The magazine holds 4 cartridges I believe, so 5 with one in the chamber. To load the magazine push the shells through the loading gate in the bottom. then cycle the action briskly. Cycling slowly can cause jams. Once the action has been cycled the action locks and will not open again unless you pull...

Remington 30 Express DOM question
I have a 30 Express in .30 remington serial number 1629x. The only markings on the barrel other than caliber are on the right side looking toward the front sight. The marks from receiver toward muzzle are M, REP in oval, star, Diamond with circle inside, K , W. If KW is the barrel code that would be...

Re: Remington 30-S in 7,65 x53mm?
The history information on Remington's web site does not list 7,65 x 53 as one of the calibers for the model 30. It does list 7 x 57 mauser. The other members here may have better info that I have; but the Model 30 was a popular platform for making custom rifles due to the strength of the action. Ac...

Re: Need more info about this REmington .30-06 rifle, please
Barrel codes started in 1921 and therefore would not have been on the military guns. Since the gun was sporterized it was probably blued after the military sights and finish was removed, there is probably a loss of military and or model markings. If you look at the gun broker examples of model 1917s...

Re: Need more info about this REmington .30-06 rifle, please
Your grandfather's gun is definitely a sporterized M1917 Remington the finger grooves in the stock are a dead giveaway. The patch on the toe of the butt stock is where the military metal buttplate wrapped around the stock. Info from Wikipedia: As it entered World War I, the UK had an urgent need for...

If you look at photo #10 you can see the barrel date code to the right of the REP. The AJ code translates to March of 1940 the key is on the home page of this site. Under the link Manufacture Dates.

Re: Need more info about this REmington .30-06 rifle, please
From Wikipedia The Model 30 had a 24 inch barrel, and was available in .30-06 Springfield only (1921-1925)- S/N between 00001 and 30600. About 3000 units were manufactured.[1][6] A carbine version with a 20 inch barrel was produced from 1924-1925, also available only in .30-06 Springfield. Both of t...

Re: Need more info about this REmington .30-06 rifle, please
It is probably the model 1917 made by Remington. I am not sure when the started marking them as Model 30 but the first ones were made on the same machines used to make the 1917 30-06 military rifles. The model 30 name came in 1921 or there about. Your grandfathers gun could be a sporterized 1917 or ...
