Re: Remington 722-40X Build

A 12X Unertl Ultra-Varminter with adjustable head from ca1965 with micrometer mounts. The sling is a modern high-power single-point sling similar to those sold by David Tubb and others. Heavy duty.

Remington 722-40X Build

Liked the way this ca1950 722 shot in its stock form so thought I'd add some refinements in handling and accuracy. Putting an Old Remington 40X Back into Service

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL12/1104763/24577692/409889274.jpg Here’s another one from the 1950’s and at least three evolutions of our junior small-bore program that’s not useable. It won’t clean the targets anymore off the bench and the non-original, shop-fabricated stock has a comb height so ...

Re: M-700 BDL Clip Conversion...Is it worth the hassle?

I am surprised that the advantages of a removable magazine have not been considered. While I agree box magazines have their place, you can accomplish pretty much the same thing in a bolt gun by popping the floorplate. http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL12/1104763/17862189/279174391.jpg If I had a req...

Re: ?synthetic or traditional walnut stock for m-700 bdl?

You'll have to rezero the rifle every time you change stocks, and repeated removal will over time gradually damage the inletting on both stocks, requiring rebedding. In fact, if the stocks come off easily, you aren't getting the most out of the rifle. Properly-bedded rifles don't come apart easily, ...

Re: M-700 BDL Clip Conversion...Is it worth the hassle?

...if it is really worth it for use on a hunting rifle? Please let me know your opinion!!! I been doing this since 1958 or so and except for some time in the Army don't recall needing three shots with a rifle, let alone five, let alone a quick-change clip. Besides, after you take your shot and lose...

Re: Vintage Remington 121A - repair or parts?

I've relined a number of small-bore barrels. It isn't difficult but the tools are expensive. I don't think you can get it done for less than a hundred bucks, as Brownells gets $32.00 for a good liner and $91.00 for the drill these days. http://e-gunparts.com/productschem.asp?chrMasterModel=0860z121 ...

You can buy old Remington catalog reprints at Cornellpubs.com. Nice selection. I'm doing the same for a similar project.

Re: Sick 742 in 6mm

Generally if there is excessive headspace there will be bright ring of stretch marks around the case just ahead of where it normally expands and obdurates (seals) the bore. That's a fourth to a third of the way north of the rim. Sometimes half way in long cases. Check your fired cases carefully. Rin...

Re: Remington Model 14 Forearm

Thanks. Glad I have a range. Thicker is easier.

If I have to turn a reproduction on the lathe I'll document it, as nobody is making replacements. After I break one or two blanks trying to turn something that fragile on the lathe I'll show you why nobody is making them. ;)
...thanks! 8) I found a Krag that has a set of four holes for a scope side mount in the receiver.l
My pleasure. Krag's are difficult because the receiver steel is relatively hard, and its temper is critical. I'd drive fit plugs without solder, but I don't think I could sav...

Remington Model 14 Forearm

I've been asked to turn a walnut forearm for a Remington Model 14 pump, duplicating the original. Apparently nobody is making replacements today. Problem is, I don't have a forearm as a model. I have good photos and I'll have the rifle, so length, contour and inside bore dimensions won't be a proble...

Re: Remington 141 Restoration - Part II - Metal

Will this be strong enough? The solder I’m using contains 4 pct silver and 96 pct tin that offers 28,000 psi of strength and is resistant to all finishing processes normally applied to firearms. I could gain more strength…38,000 psi… by using a higher silver content solder that requires 650 degrees ...
