Found out the hard way. The collar was pressed onto the barrel, then silver soldered. In addition, there was a brass sleeve inserted between the barrel and the collar before it was pressed on. Needed acetylene to break the silver solder bond. MAP gas wouldn't touch it.

Re: rimfire
I have had to return quite a few 597 22lr rifles for service. (I sell guns)
All have had the exact same problem. Broken extractor. Most are totally missing, having blown out during firing. One rifle had to be sent back three times.
Take it for what it's worth.

Stock on 870 Super Mag
Will the standard 870 stock and forend fit on an 870 Super Magnum 12 ga?
Also, will standard 870 barrels work in the Super Magnum receiver?
Thanks.

Re: Finish on Model 11 Sportsman?
Thanks for the reply. I am refurbishing an old 3 shot and wanted to know because I am planning on stripping the wood and applying a hand rubbed oil finish.
The citrus stripper I have will do the job, and not be too aggressive.
Thanks again.

Finish on Model 11 Sportsman?
Can anyone tell me what the original was on the Model 11 Sportsman from the factory?
It doesn't look like a varnish, but since this is as old as it is, the shine may have just been worn to a dull sheen.
Was it an oil finish or a varnish or shellac?
Thank you.

Cutts Compensator Removal?
I recently acquired a Remington Model 11 with a 26" bbl and a factory fitted Cutts Compensator. When I removed the Cutts body, the collar (part attached to the barrel) shows three small holes drilled into it, without any set screws, just blind holes. They look like they were meant to be for a s...

Model 11 Sportsman question
I have just acquired a Model 11 Sportsman (746488). I am trying to disassemble the firearm, and have watched quite a few videos on the process (this is my first M-11). In every video and direction sheet, the instructions for removing the pin for the bolt stop call for aligning the pin with a hole on...
