If I remove the factory installed choke can I shoot slugs and buckshot in the 870 16 ga Express? Thanks

I just purchased a new never been fired Model 870 16 ga Express from local gun shop. The serial number is D390337W. Can anyone tell me when it was mfgd? I had looked for a 16 ga for couple of years.
