Re: Potential Remington No1 "Creedmoor" - Help!

Just saw your post. WOW! nice rifle. I am not an expert (yet) but it certainly is a Creedmoor style. The 5 LLHepburn stamps are something I've never heard of. and 44S means 44 Special Could be 44-77 or 44-90 do a chamber cast and see which one you have. One never knows with these old ladies. From wh...

Re: Remington Hepburn 32-20

Hi Rdj, Congrats on the Hepburn. Asking the value of one is like asking how high is up. It sounds like the one you have is in mint condition, so that helps the value. At gun shows, I haven't seen one less than $1000, and very few at that. There again, depending on what style, condition, and the buye...

Re: Another rolling block question??

My guy thinks it could have been made around 1898. Doesn't seem to be a source for great record keeping from back then.

Keep us posted on how it shoots,

Re: Another rolling block question??

I will see a guy who is well versed in Hepburns today, I'll ask about the serial #. Modern ammo in 32-20 should be safe to shoot, but if it has been sitting for 60 years and came from a high moisture environment, I'd check it out thoroughly. If the bore is clear, and all the parts operate, it is pro...

Re: Another rolling block question??

You have a #3 Remington, a Hepburn. technically a falling block. Remington used numbers 1- 5 for their model #s with the #3 as a different block style. Double set triggers were made for the Hepburn, but are not that common. Check out Vernz's post below and see if yours looks like his. A .32W should ...

Re: Is 50-140 Hepburn one of a kind?

Hi Vernz, Join the American Single Shot Rifle (ASSRA.com) forum. Post those photos and your question there and I bet you will get a reply, and a few offers to buy it! I could not find a reference to a 50-140 in my Hepburn book, but there were 50-70 and 50 -90's made. You are correct tho', that is a ...

Re: Remington Hepburn #3 Questions.

Hi Chewbaca, Check out the American Single Shot Rifle Association (ASSRA)- ASSRA.com. They have a knowledgeable group of guys and I'm sure some one can help you identify your #3. There is a group that holds the Western Carolina Schuetzen matches, in Asheville, I think. Contact John Bancroft at 828-6...

Re: Remington Hepburn #3 Questions.

WOW! if your gun is similar to the photo, it could be an "A" or "B" grade Match rifle. The 40- 2 1/2 is .40-65 Sharps cartridge. Not to be too elementary, but that meant a .40 caliber bullet with 65 grains of black powder. Many guys I know(me included) use an equivalent charge of...

Re: Please help identify old Rolling-Block

Try Rollingblockparts.com they may have your early takedown lever. No one makes .32rim any more(that I know of), but you may find some out there on the 'net. If you want to make a shooter, reline to .22 assuming that every thing else is functional. It is nice to have a family heirloom! oughtsix

Re: Smooth bore #4

I think it is the early model. It has the thumb lever, not the screw. I have it taken apart for cleaning. I need to replace the block and hammer screws, they were a mess. May be a while before it's back together. My plan was to reline it, I knew the barrel was crap, just didn't know it might be rare...

Smooth bore #4

I picked a #4 RB takedown this week with the intention of relining to make a plinker. The bore seemed to be so foul that no rifling could be seen. After much cleaning, it appeared completely shot out. I happened across a comment in DeHaas' Single Shot Rifles... that there were a few smooth bore 22 r...
