While on the subject of the anchor symbol, I can't begin to tell how many arguments I have had with gun show "experts" about the anchor on Remington 51 auto pistols NOT indicating being issued to U.S. Navy officers.

I, too, have an 1885 with "Philadelphia" stamped on the comb. Problem is, there were more than one U.S.S. Philadelphia, and I'm not sure which one had these on board.

Try looking for a serial number on the underside of the barrel just forward of the stock forearm. I purchased one from a pawn shop some years back that the owner had listed as "NSN" (No Serial Number). Later on, when I got it home, I discovered it had a serial number at the place mentioned.

Be careful in your search; The 1885 Navy and 1882 Army have bolts that are similar looking, but don't interchange.

Can anyone tell me if the magazines for the 6mm Lee Navy and .30-40 cartridges interchange? What I mean is will one feed the other? My situation is that I have a Rem-Lee 6mm Lee Navy sporter rifle that came with a magazine for shorter rounds such as .30-30, .32-40, etc. I'm thinking that I checked f...
