Re: Antique or not?: Remington Rolling Block Baby Carbine with 20" barrel
Interestingly, here’s another one with blued components, including the saddle ring, and weak upper markings, as nickeled. https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-for-sale-online/rifles/antique-rifles---single-shot/superb-remington--quot-baby-saddle-ring-carbine-quot---44-40-rolling-block.cfm?gun_id=1...

Re: Antique or not?: Remington Rolling Block Baby Carbine with 20" barrel
Just came across this thread. Were the baby carbines made over several years, or was just one batch made. The number made in any given year is based on shipping records, and not on actual production. It takes too much time and effort to set up a production line for any specific model. only to make ...

Re: Antique or not?: Remington Rolling Block Baby Carbine with 20" barrel
Well, the bankruptcy was in 1888. These Baby Carbines were produced 1892 to 1902. So is there ANY way to differentiate at least some as being, if not pre 1899/post 1898, then prior to a specific year prior to 1899? Maybe pre 1894 examples are different than later ones in some regard, for example?

Re: Antique or not?: Remington Rolling Block Baby Carbine with 20" barrel
The question is with regards to the BABY carbines. I don't believe any were military. They were produced or sold 1892 to 1902. However, presumably receivers were forged in batches, all at once in 1892 or perhaps on multiple occasions, maybe all before 1899, thereby making all of these antique? Of co...

Antique or not?: Remington Rolling Block Baby Carbine with 20" barrel
Are all, some, or none of these antique--that is, pre-1899 production? Note: Classification is based on the manufacture date of the frame, and not when fully assembled or when shipped. If some are classified as antique and others are not, how does one differentiate between the antique and non-antiqu...

Re: Remington Model 1875 & 1890 references
Okay, my insane work schedule, while still insane, became a little less so as of today. I have not given up on this idea for a book and hopefully can begin in earnest. Does anyone know If the papers of Marcellus Hartley still exist, and, if so, where. The Library of Congress and Yale University are ...

Re: 1875 Remington cylinder pin removal
The bottom of the left grip is stamped 44, which indicates it is chambered in .44 WCF. So, either the grip was stamped 44 when converted, which seems unlikely, but possible, or it was originally chambered in .44 WCF and stamped 44 at the time of production.

Re: 1875 Remington cylinder pin removal
Hello, I just purchased a 1875 Remington revolver in .44 Remington CF serial number 14227. I'm having a difficult time removing the cylinder pin. I don't see any catch to release. For example my Colt single action has a screw on the frame which holds the pin in and must be removed. What has to be d...

Re: Remington Model 1875 & 1890 references
After much thought, I am thinking of attempting to write a book on the Remington 1875, 1888, and 1890 revolvers. Here are some hurdles, but anything is possible: Not much original primary source material out there. Not insurmountable, but would prove helpful. I am unpublished. I have a professional ...

Re: Remington 1901 Rolling Block Target Pistol
Although this is a Remington Model 1901, the frame is pre-1899, and it is considered to be an "antique". This corrects my first post, where it is claimed to be post-1898: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24319
