Hammer strikes on magazine in Model Six

Is it normal for my Model Six( 30-06) to leave hammer marks on the back of the magazine? Its not caving a dent but it was quite a surprise to see. Also, I'm getting click bangs wit hCCI200 primers. I think its due to the light , small diameter inertial firing pin( spring loaded). Is there a better p...

LOVE my new Model Six

Gave up in frustration on my 243 700 CDL( inconsistent and generally poor accuracy). So I sold it and bought a NIB condition Model Six 30-06 caliber. XA ( Dec 1980) barrel code, but with the # 99 stamped after the code. Any thoughts on what that number means?Serial # A401442x, I believe she's a very...

Re: Are 760's short throated?

DB.WOW...First, the 220 Speer is designed for the 35 Rem and with the bullet seated to safely clear the leade the cann. is below the case neck( already trimmed to minimum length).I had no intention of making it anything other than a 35 Rem ballistically. As far as doing" all sorts of stupid stu...

700 CDL 243

A dear friend was absolutely taken by my 760 35Rem and proposed a VERY generous trade which , apon reflection of his generosity to me over the years, I could not refuse.I am now the owner of a new 700 CDL in .243 caliber. Overall, I'm impressed with the rifle. The action is one of the smoothest bolt...

Re: Got my first 760 and she's a 35!

Took her to the range with some reloads, 200 gr Rem Corelokts over 37 gr of IMR 3031( this load gave 2100 fps from my 141's 24 inch barrel) and it did quite well. Open sights , 3 rounders at 100 yards were averaging 2 inches. Not too shabby!

Are 760's short throated?

Loaded up some Speer 220's for my 1979 issue 760 .35 Remington and found she is VERY short throated. My 141 would take that bullet seated to 2.480". Most manuals give an OAL of 2.47 for this bullet. My rifle will not accept anything over 2.445". I'm not crimping for this rifle but the bullet...

Re: Got my first 760 and she's a 35!

My bad...She's a 35 Remington. This was a single year production, 1980, but my barrel code( poorly stamped) is PV. June 1979.

Got my first 760 and she's a 35!

$350 out the door and she's a beaut! Definately on of the 1980 production and not much used either. blueing is about 90% and the wood is perfect excepting the rear sling base is too far foward...Anyway, there is a number 4 stamped after the date code just ahead of the barrel extension joint.I read o...

Parts kit for Model 141

Seeing as parts for these rifles will not be getting easier to find over the coming years, what parts would you consider must haves in a parts kit?I dont know how the 14/141's rate for durability or which parts are prone to wear/breakage but suggestions would be appreciated. Right now my biggest con...

First blood for my 141

My 1941 Model 141 loaded with a 200 gr CoreLokt and 37 gr of IMR 3031( chrono'd 2100 fps) made a MESS of a nice fat Pa. doe last Saturday. Made a left handed shot from a tree stand, I am very RIGHT handed, at 30 yards. The shot went in alittle high for the spine but it knocked her down for awhile unt...

Re: Remington 141 with pics--comments/suggestions?

My 1941 issue 141 which was in literally NIB condition has a pewter colored action bar excepting heat treatment coloration around the portion which protrudes from the front of the reciever. I dont know if the magazine ring was case hardened or not , but the blueing practically wiped off the circular...

Impressed with my 141

Been shooting my .35 cal 141 and the rifle is a marvel. My open sight groups are fine enough( 1 1/2 to 3 inches) for me to take her for a walk later this month :D .She is 100% reliable and maintains an extremely gratifing point of impact. It is odd that I notice the pop on my cheek more than the shov...

Re: Brand new (really) Model 141

Sent some 200 gr Corelokts downrange the other day.Groups at 100 yards were all under 2 inches( open sights) and I'm very happy to say that groups fired with the forend on a sand bag and groups fired with me gripping the forend and my hand resting on the bag had an identical point of impact. I also ...

Re: Brand new (really) Model 141

Thanks for the info. I am curious about the point of impact shift.I've seen the effect most pronounced in break open single shots and pump slug guns.I hope its not too pronounced! Another thing I just noticed is the barrel is a 7 groove. Other than Model 1917 rifles I didn't know Remington made odd#...

Re: Brand new (really) Model 141

Rickster,The shooter grade 14/141's I've seen lately have been rode hard and put away wet... I'm definately a reloader and I'm curious to see just how well the old girl will shoot.Sorry to the collectors out there, but the saddest thing in riflery is a safe queen. Its kinda like the healthy kid , wit...
