Re: Remington No. 1 rolling block chambering
The Egyptian rifle is .43 Egyptian. I understand this is a fussy round to reload for, but have never tried myself.

Model 33 Husqvarna Trade/Upgrade Opportunity
I have a rifle that people keep trying to buy off me, but I like its size and form, so I just say No Thanks. It is what I would call a "Deluxe" or "Custom" Model 33 Husqvarna in 9.5x47R, a popular German target cartridge. What makes this one stand out is its light colored fullsto...

Re: Help with Remington-Lee 45-70 (Navy)
Nice example. Can't help in taking it apart. Trivia: USS OLYMPIA had several hundred of these rifles onboard when she sailed for the Orient in 1895. Lots of people think that since she fired the first shots to begin the Spanish American War on May1, 1898, that she had Krags or Winchester Lee Navy ri...

Re: Remington Rolling block with unknown markings?
This is new to me. But one thing I have learned about the study of rolling blocks, both foreign and domestic, is that just when you think you have a handle on the subject, someone throws a curveball or uncovers information completely refuting previous beliefs.

Re: Remington Rolling block with unknown markings?
I think it is the Spanish model converted from .43 Spanish to Spanish Reformado. I think the R in the RV is for the Spanish word for "reconstituted" (converted?).

Re: 40-50 sharps
You can make a quick and dirty chamber cast with wax. Doesn't hold up well, but is good for a quick check of what you have there.

Dating a Number 2 Remington
and should we kiss on the first date? Just kidding! Picked up a pretty nice Number 2 in .22 RF today at a show. Do not need it, but price was too good to pass up. It has the one line barrel address REMINGTON ARMS CO ILION NY USA on the top of barrel, 22 RF just forward of the forearm, buffalo ...

Re: Rolling block 1871? Help identify
Looks to be a pretty nice example of a New York state militia .50-70 rifle. You might be able to get the correct spring here:

Re: remington Rolling Block date
I think we need more information such as type (military or civilian), caliber, tang/receiver markings, etc. Photos or a detailed description would be useful, too.
