Re: Remington 742 6mm Carbine

Tony, sorry about my error on the recessed crown, I thought I had seen a picture of your gun earlier, but now realize you did not post pictures. The Remington catalog of 1962 lists the three calibers you mention. Gene Myszkowski's book on autoloaders and pumps states the same and gives total produce...

Re: Remington 742 6mm Carbine

Tony, I never saw any catalog data listing a 742 carbine in 6MM. I know that all 760 carbines have the word CARBINE stamped on the barrel in large letters. I assume that the Model 742 carbines have the same ID. Does your 6MM carbine have the CARBINE stamp? If not you should check the sights for any ...

Re: help age this 870 for me

Serial numbers on the 870 without a one letter prefix were used 1950 -1968. I would say that the date code would be the first two letters, DB which is Sept 1955. The H would be an assemblers mark.

Re: dom

Remington used no prefix letter in the serial numbers on the 870 from 1952 to 1968, so I guess the date code would be XB, Dec 1955. the T would be an inspector or assembly code.

Re: "new" old model 1100 date , please

Your barrel is coded as made in June 1979 or 2001, your s/n indicates that the gun was made between 1964 and 1968 because the s/n has no prefix letter. So I would say that the barrel was swapped at one time.

What a great gun, yours looks to be in good condition. They are fun to shoot as are the Model 14 carbines. Could you secretly tell me the name of the website where you got it.

Re: Thumbnail Safety cutout on model 14 Receiver??

John is correct, and you will find them with s/n between 30xxx and 78xxx. After 78xxx Remington stopped making the thumbnail safety but had many, many receivers that had the slot. These were otherwise perfectly usable, sothey were used up later. They were used up after 1920 and most of them have a d...

Yes, Dec 1991 is correct. The A prefix in the s/n was only used 1991-1994

Re: Remington 14 1/2 Questions

Most likely a metal shotgun type butt plate, That is what was being used in 1914. British records show that 4000 14 1/2 rifles in 44-40 were received from Remington via J P Morgan in NYC. It is believed that inspectors from Canada proofed them at the Remington plant. Remington has no record of the s...

Re: New to the forum. Remington 141 35rem, little help please

Les, the first model 141 guns were of a transition type, they contained barrels from the previous Model 14. Yours, I believe, is one of those. If it has a 22 inch barrel with a integrel front sight ramp built into the barrel, then it is one of those. Yours may also not be stamped Gamemaster on the r...

Re: Remington 760 Gamemaster 300 Savage

I have not seen a 760 marked 760R, but they are stamped Carbine. What is the barrel length? Can you post some pictures? If it is a cut off rifle, as I suspect, then the value is only as a shooter. If you mean the R that has a circle around it after the 760 on the receiver, that is to indicate that 7...

Re: Need help: early 870 Wingmaster 12ga.

Unscrew the cap at the end of the magazine, remove the spring loaded ring with care because it holds the plug and magazine spring in place. Remove the wooden or plastic plug and re assemble.
