It is very unlikely the gun has been restocked, considering the quality of design and wood. Obviously the pad is not original, nor is any pad likely to be original. I think that's the way it works. I would have to dig mine out to confirm, but if there is a plunger there, it is for you to pull. I haven't shot mine but I'm looking forward to it.

Measure the bore and choke with a bore micrometer. The difference in the two dimensions will give the the constriction. About .008 to .012 would be improved cylinder. .015 to .025, modified. .025 to .035, improved modified. Any more would be full.
