Not to sound like a smart alec, but there are other things to shoot with a shotgun besides migratory birds. 5 shot guns can be plugged to 3 shot, but the Sportsman can't be readily made into a 5 shooter.
The Sportsman was a niche type design for migratory bird shooters and skeet shooters.

Re: Model 34 shoots high
Nope, backwards. Lower the rear sight to drop point of impact. Actually sounds like you need a taller front sight. The sights are dovetailed on, right? Should be able to order a taller one. Where to get one? try Brownells or Midway USA. They are measured from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of...

Re: Model 11 16 Gauge Questions
pads weren't standard, but could be added by the factory. I would venture that most were added later. There are a LOT of Model 11's out there with recoil pads added. They work just fine. if you need the length, add a pad. I try to find examples that haven't been changed, as the length of pull on sta...

Re: Model 11 Full Choke Barrel, best way to set up for skeet?
You existing barrel can be honed out to Skeet or IC. Tubes will make it very useful. I have Vent Rib barrel with a Cutts Compensator (exterior choke tubes) that looks factory installed (no choke stamp on barrel). Barrel w/o the Cutts is about 22". Would be pretty short w/o the cutts on it. I ha...

Re: which came after
Remington's website shows a gap between 1950 (end of 141) and 1952 (start of 760). I didn't think there was a gap between these models. It wouldn't be the first time that this information was incorrect.

No, but a Savage made barrel will. The ejectors are different on a browning.
There are several barrels for sale for Remington's on gunbroker.

Re: Model 11 question
Most sources list 1948 as the end of production. I see that Remington's website says 1947, but that appears to contradict all other sources. They also list the 11-48 as starting production in 1949. I think "Big Green's" website is incorrect for these 2 models. Model 11's were produced into...

Be sure to check out the above. The 35 Rem is my favorite. Still readily available, as is the 300 savage (model 81 only).

Might ask over at the Great Model 8 site. As far as I know he's still kicking. I understand he doesn't do the internet, so a telephone is the way to get him.

Re: .30 Remington reloading specs
What are you shooting the 30 Remington in?? Check out the Model 8 site, there are some links to ammo and supplies. http://thegreatmodel8.remingtonsociety.com/ You would need .30 Remington reloading dies, but 30-30 winchester, or 30 WCF (winchester centerfire) reloading data (powder and bullet select...

Re: Remingtn model 8 or Fn Herstal
Based on the straight gripped stock I would say it's a Remington Model 8.

http://thegreatmodel8.remingtonsociety.com/ Check out the above website, also. There are some pictures in the Gallery of engraved guns. Without seeing the gun, it's hard to determine originality of the engraving. I will venture to say most likely original. There were not as many Model 81's engraved ...

Re: Feeding a 44-40 model 14 1/2???
I don't have one, nor shoot the 44-40, but I'm pretty sure the 14 1/2 is intended to shoot anything (jacketed or lead). The only factory loads, until the cowboy shooting revolution about 15 years ago, was jacketed softpoints. Now there are lots of factory loaded lead ammo out there, too. Both will b...
