Re: 788 .243 with Walnut Stock?

The distance between the two screws looks to be about 7 1/4 inches. Sound about right? I was hopin you'd be 1/4 inch the other way! Yours should be 7. 7 is correct for a Extra Long action which is correct for the 6mm, 308 and the later 7mm-08. Well, now I know about a 1st year Extra Long. Thanx

Re: 788 .243 with Walnut Stock?

Built July 1968. The 9 is the final inspector. There should be a builder mark closer to the recoil lug. As for the measurement, no hurry. Just wanna know what it is on such an early 243. I'm in the belief that early 243s are what they call, in 788 terms, long actions.

Re: 788 .243 with Maple Stock?

No sir, I can pull the stock and check for another date code? Where would I look? I've only used the barrel date code to date Remingtons before? There will be no other code but for a number possibly stamped on the bottom of the action. Look close. It is likely all there but you may not see it all. ...

Re: 788 .243 with Walnut Stock?

Mine is a first year 30/30 and starts 026XXX. What are the "characters" where the date stamp is? Walnut stocks came on the 788s for the first two years. Oh and one more thing. I would really really like to know the spacing distance between the action screws!

Re: Model 600 with a Mannlicher stock

Some were, yes. AFAIK they all when to Europe. Now that I read your other comment on another post, it was the 600, not the Mohawk that got the factory full length stock. The Mohawk you reading about was likely aftermarket or hand cobbled.

Re: Transitional 725 / 700 - Kodiak / 1962 Safari

I'll reply so you get at least one!. Neato! Now, my query. These rifles are/were custom shop rifles, not? I'm guessing the length of time it takes/took to build these may have some bearing on the mix or maybe it was ordered that way? Anyway, I hear of very few of them here in Canada. I handled a 375 ...

Re: 572 no barrel code ?

Well, I poured over the Remington Rimfire book and found nothing to help you. And nothing to help me figure out why the is a dovetail under the screwed-on rear site of these rifles! Sorry to be of no help.

Re: Remington 660 Trigger Recall

Somewhere, I once saw a picture of a hack job done to a 600 in the early stages of the original recall. Out of all my 600s, only one had had the recall done before I received it. After seeing the aforementioned picture, I consider myself lucky that the same guy didn't do mine! What I remember seeing...

"Serial Numbers by date (factory record book)" LINK NOT WORKING

Hopefully someone will see this that can possibly repair it. The link on the dating page for "Serial Numbers by date (factory record book)" fails and take us to a picture of what I do not know-but it is NOT the handwritten book pages that it use to be.

Thanx

Re: Online Availability to Remington .22 Rimfire Rifles

Maybe you've been watching the same discussion I have for the last hour or so. These are out of print and sold out everywhere on the net as of today. Watched the last one I've found for sale go today. I watch every-so-often for pricing. A friend had one and let it go to someone who needed it for a g...

Holy crap. You've got an early one there! Dates to October of 1947. Is 700 older than the oldest John Lacy states that he has seen.

Re: 742 semi's

There are 10 000s out there that run just fine. My 308 742 is from the mid to late 70s. It eats everything I throw in it from cheap factory to milsurp. The thing is/was to keep them clean. Yes, they do wear more than some semis due to design. Where action rails run in the receiver is the worst area,...
