In my opinion it is a refinished original New Model (not 1861 ) The Refinisher added the inspector marks to the frame,barrel and cylinder. I have never seen such marks on the rear of the cylinder. One final serial number check is to remove the trigger guard screw and the trigger guard and see if the...

Suggestion- If you have the old stock, get a copy of GUN LIST and look under STOCKS and find a company that duplicates Stocks and send him yours. Jay Huber RSA

Shouldn't you put the sight elevator back in and set it at it's highest position? If ii am not mistaken this should drop the front sight line of site? Jay Huber RSA

Your gun was made in early 1863 and I believe it is a transition model of the old (61 model ) into the New Model since it doesn't have New Model stamped on it. We have no further Information about the gun except that it was accepted by the Army. Jay Huber RSA

Your Gun is a typical half stock rifle made from Remington parts but not assembled by Remington. Remington was in the business o f making gun barrels and supplied gun smiths with all the parts like trigger guards. butt plates, locks(usually imported) and stock blanks etc. I believe the gun was made ...
