Re: Reloading Question

Not sure what you mean by bottom out, but if you mean that rub marks from the die stop 1/4 of the way up the case, that is to be expected. The case walls are thicker toward the head, so they dont expand as much. Or if they do expand, they spring back. On new cases, you wont be sizing much of the cas...

Re: Reloading Question

I would say your friend is OK. It doesnt sound like he is doing a good job of explaining to you, though. And it sounds like he needed to do a better job of checking his die adjustments on the first shell, before continuing to the others. Sounds like he didnt size them far enough. Rounds loaded for 1...

Re: Brand new (really) Model 141

I almost forgot. Unless one of the true collectors chimes to to correct me, I think it is safe to say that the factory never put sling swivels on a 141. But then I am just an accumulator and a shooter.

Re: Brand new (really) Model 141

I did a fair amount of work with two 141/35s (one with a standard barrel and one with a chopped barrel). Not as much as with the lighter calibers, out of consideration for my shoulder, but enough to come up with some good loads. I am out of town right now, so I don’t have my data handy. Maybe later....

Re: Brand new (really) Model 141

Oh..... you are breakin some collectors heart by shooting a new condition 141 with so many shooter grade 141s available. But hey, I see guns as tools, so more power to you. If you handload, there are a few things to keep in mind. So speak up if that is the case. And I have posted previously on some ...

Re: Will you be takng a vintage Remington deer hunting?

It seems most people think of vintage as basically their own age or older. In my case that would be anything fifties or older, while I have a preference for 1930s stuff. I have no problem with it meaning different things to different people. To me, vintage connotates more of a feeling than some hard...

Re: Will you be takng a vintage Remington deer hunting?

He is dirt poor living in Alaska. He shoots them behind the ear at close range. Probably not legal, even in Alaska. He is not concerned with the approval of others.

Re: Will you be takng a vintage Remington deer hunting?

I wouldnt think a 25-20 or a 32-20 would be treating the deer very fairly. I know a guy who has taken over 100 deer with a 22LR, another who swears by the 25-20, another who has hunted every year for 40 years with a 30-06 except the year he couldn't kill one with a 45-70, and so on. If you make sur...

Will you be takng a vintage Remington deer hunting?

Deer season approaches. Last year's venison fell to a Mo 14 in 25 Rem. I am thinking this year I might go with a Mo 30 in 25 Rem. Or maybe take my chances with Mo 25 in 25-20 or 32-20.

So...will anyone else here be taking a vintage Remington hunting this fall? Or are you all armchair shooters?

Cold blue

Over the last few decades I have studied and practiced the art and chemistry of cold blueing. And I dare say that I have developed a method that only the very astute can tell from an old authentic blue. In the process, I have developed a good eye for recognizing cold blueing. One time, while at a gu...

Re: Model 14 - First Firing Questions

If the rifle is in the shape you described, there should be no problem with shooting it. The only safety concern I have had with the 14s is that if they have a lot of internal wear, the triggers can become unreliable. I have seen 2 rifles with that problem. If you search back through my posts, you w...

Re: My new to me 722 in 257 Roberts

I would imagine that Mike had his choice of about any wood in the place. And it looks like he chose well.

And I like his ctg choice too.

Interesting that he went with a side mount scope.

What's the rest of the story on that rifle?

Re: m14 and spitzer type bullets

There are problems with pointed bullets and Mo 14s. First, the point will wedge between the case head and the tube wall, jamming the shells in the tube. You probably wont be able to get more than a couple in the tube. Second, overall length is limited and critical to proper operation. In order to st...
