Re: Muzzleloading 4 bore Remington barrel

Quote... I did say it was not a typical punt gun. Although, punt guns sometimes did have stocks. I have seen them in museums (there is one on display in N. Carolina). 1960 is pretty late in the use of such firearms. Federal Laws would have to be violated to use one at that time. Hence, their heyday ...

Re: Muzzleloading 4 bore Remington barrel

4 bore would be very small for a Punt Gun. The one I used in the 1960's used pound of shot also a true punt gun was fixed in the Punt and didn't have a stock. It was a sort of cannon.

Whit could be a 'Wall Gun'. They were used to shoot geese from a rest on a wall.

Re: Rem Rolling Blocks conversion from 32 Rim

I personally wouldn't do it. There is history of old Rolling Blocks failing . Different times, different metals. Here in the UK we are fortunate in that if we change the chambering of a gun we have, by law, to submit it to proof. That way we get a rifle with a nice new proof mark (or certificate if ...

I suggest that you put this thread onto the Pre 1898 section. That's where most of the Rolling Block experts hang out.
It was pure chance that I looked in here.

Re: Rem Rolling Blocks conversion from 32 Rim

Why not shoot it. I shoot one on a No.4 action and it's fun.
You can get re-loadable cases that use a .22 bank as a primer. You don't need any loading equipment, just drop in a blank, fill the case with black powder (or Pyrodex) sick a bullet or ball on the end and you are in business.

Re: Rem Rolling Blocks conversion from 32 Rim

If you go ahead with this conversion you will achieve two things.
(1) You will put yourself and, possabley others, at risk.
(2) You will destroy a piece of history .

If you want a more powerful rifle, buy a more powerful rifle.

Re: 1899 remington lee sporting rifle ????

Why not see if you can get a 'Non Gun smithing scope mount' for your rifle. I have one on a military Lee Enfield and it is fine. It never loses it's zero even if I drop it.

Re: Rear sight base orientation

I am confused :? . On all of my military Black Powder rolling blocks have the high, non pivoted end at the front. One of them, a commercial finished ( blue & case hardened) .43 Egyptian is pivoted at the front but still high at the front. My only smallbore (7mm) 1902 rifle is also 'high at front'.

Re: Yet another ID

I have been shooting .43 Egyptian Rolling Blocks for many years. You will need to load your own ammo, cases are available and I load with a medium black powder. For short distances, up to 100 yards I use .45 Colt bullets in lead and for distances up to 500 yards I cast my own lead using a Lee die.

Re: Rolling Block .303 British Calibre

We (British) purchased what was available. This was to free up .303 Le Enfield rifles for troops going over to France.
We also bought Arisaka and other rifles such as mod.1892 and 1894 Winchesters.

Re: New for me!

I suggested superglue because it soaks into the wood and allows and allows a woods to wood bond. It doesn't leave a residue the need for you to sand or otherwise affect the original finish. A few weeks ago, at the range, some idiot stepped on my .22 Winchester model 1890 and snapped the stock just b...

Re: New for me!

Why a new stock? From your images I would think the original one is reparable. To repair the splits I would take the stock off, put a liberal dose of superglue in the damage and the clamp or bind it tight and allow it to set. If you were thinking of a new stock anyway you have nothing, apart from a ...
