Re: Need more info about this REmington .30-06 rifle, please

We need some more info. Like the type of action, (bolt, pump, autoloader) pictures would help. What type of magazine? The REP is a proof mark.

Re: Remington 14 1/2 Buttplate??

As Jim said anything is possible. The rubber butt plate was optional after the first year so it is still correct original or not. If the stock has not been cut I do not know why a steel plate would have been replaced with hard rubber since the effect on recoil would probably be the same. If it were ...

Re: Remington 14 1/2 Buttplate??

According to Ken Blaunch's book on 14/14 1/2s, the hard rubber but plate was only used on the first years production of 14s. After that they went to steel butt plates. The the raised ammo indicator tells me that this gun probably should have the steel butt plate. Others correct me if I am wrong. :)

Re: Finish on a Model 30 stock

Thanks Rickster, that finish matches mine. I questioned it because other Remingtons I have from the teens have what appears to be a varnish finish that is glossy rather than matte.

Finish on a Model 30 stock

I just picked up a Model 30 Express in .30 Rem on Gun Broker. I rate the blue about 85%, good condition for its age and no marks or scratches just honest wear. The stock is in very good to excellent shape with a few minor dents and very little wear on the checkering. My question is what should the f...

Re: Misfire

I have fired some pretty old ammo in the past without problems. I do not believe the Remington rimless cartridges were ever loaded with black powder. If there is no black spots or other corrosion on the cases I would not be afraid to fire them. Did you fire any others in the box? I have fired some g...

Re: Misfire

If the inertial puller is all you have, take it outside, wear eye protection and gloves and give it a go. There is very little chance of the primer igniting powder due to an inertial impact. The primer compound needs to be compressed between the anvil and the metal of the primer cup as it is deforme...

Re: Twist rate on a Model 30 for .25 Remington?

According to an old Lyman manual I have Remington used a 1 in 10 twist for 25 remington. Winchester Leveractions used a 1in 8 for 25-35 chambered guns.

Re: Misfire

If the primer had a strong hit mark then the primer may be a dud. Is this a reload or old factory ammo? I have pulled many bullets from failure to fire cartridges with either an inertial puller or a bullet puller that mounts in a single stage press. The press mount is probably the most gentle.

Re: 25 Remington Reload information

Pictures might help but better would be to measure the case length after sizing. If you have a max case length gauge such as Lyman makes, you can use the 25-35 Win. or 30-30 trim to step to compare for .30 or .25 Rem. The case should be around 2.04 inches or less. Cartridge length should be 2.54 inc...

Re: Model 8 Stripper Clips, Part Deux

I am not sure what your question concerns. Stripper clips, slide in a c-shaped notch in the receiver and rests on the top of the magazine well. The cartridges are than pushed into the magazine and "stripped" off the clip. The clip does not enter the magazine it just facilitates the loading...

Re: Reboring a Model 14 from .30Rem to .35Rem?

The .35 Rem has a head size similar to 30-06; it is not the same cartridge family as .25, .30, and .32 Rem. Re-boring would probably weaken the chamber and barrel too much. In addition, other internal parts as suggested may need to be replaced such as the magazine follower and maybe the tube itself....

Re: 25 Remington Reload information

In addition to Rickster's suggestions, check the shoulder were the body turns into the shoulder. If the fired cases were longer than the max case length, you might have caused a bulge when you crimped. If you use a taper or roll crimp, case length will effect the amount of crimp and cause problems. ...
