Re: What model do I have here and what age is it?
It started life as a 12 mm Swedish rifle. They started with the Model 1867 and had several variations. What it is now ?????????

Re: Danish Rolling Block Rear Sight
Yes, it is correct for a period of time in Denmark. I can't tell from the photo but, if the graduations are NOT crossed out, then it is the original 1883 rear sight graduated in the Danish measurement for "Alens". Pre metric Europe used various measurements...Russians used "arshins&qu...

Re: Danish Roller firing pins?
While occasionally seen in print, the firing pin on Danish Rolling Blocks is not reversible. I have a few Danes and none of the firing pins can be turned around to be used for rimfire cartridges. Another example of erroneous information taking on a life of its own.

Re: Rolling Block strange markings
The crown/L is a Belgian inspectors mark. Very few military Rolling Blocks were marked with caliber let alone country of use. Since the rifles were rebarreled from .58 cal. to 11mm I suppose the Belgians had to make new rear sights. Unknown by me the significance of the "209".

Re: Rolling Block strange markings
You are correct that your rifle started "life" as a .58 caliber rifle. The hash marks you describe are consistent with Belgian rebuild purposes. I don't know if they are an inventory marking or tracking marking but they appear on all my Rolling Blocks that have been rebarreled by the Belgi...

Re: Which countryman is this
Based on the limited information, I'm going to guess that it is an Egyptian contract. The muzzle end of the barrel is worn considerably, an indication of a harsh environment and a characteristic shared by a large number of Egyptian Rolling Blocks. The hammer and breech block spurs are also very worn...

Re: Which countryman is this
I don't believe it is Swedish. Swedish carbines had an entirely different rear sight. The two pins (hammer and breech block) were held in with separate screws, often referred to as "moon screws". The Swede carbines were in 12mm. The rear sight looks large enough to be from a rifle. Has it ...

Re: Assistance on what military rolling block is this?
They were originally in 11mm (.43) Spanish. If this is a rifle, there is probably an "R" stamped on top of the barrel in front of the receiver. This R is often poorly struck. It would be then reamed out to the 11mm (.43) Reformado cartridge. This cartridge has the same rim and base diamete...

It was made in the Spanish National Armory at Oviedo in 1882.

Re: Relining a No2 barrel
Two others you might try: Randal Redman, Washington. 509-826-5512 (randyman@ncidata.com). He relined a No. 2 for me back in 2012. He said that the barrel on the No.2 is rather thin compared to his liner that I had to sigh a waver of liability in case something went wrong while reaming out the bore f...

Re: Brass frame Remington rifle
Ed, I was watching that rifle. Looked too much like a Remington and not at all like a European product. i.e., I had no idea what it was. This won't help you any but I have a brass-framed Rolling Block with a French proof mark. In Geo. Layman's book on page 88. Got a little info on it from "Doc ...

The B and the P you refer to are Remington inspector marks. No photo of the rear sight so ?????
