Re: Shooting through brush - .35 Remington

Have to agree with that, I read the Boddington experiment too. While not scientific, it was practical and his results led me to believe that all bullets will deflect in brush. A .35 will deflect less than a 22, but not enough less to guarantee a well placed shot.

Re: Remington 30 Express in .35 Remington

My .35 is #10,14X, in the same range as yours. My follower doesn't have the studs like yours, it was just a cut down standard extractor, the put a plug in the magazine box for the shorter cartridge. A lot of marks on that gun. When I get home I'll pull mine out and see if any match. You can't see it...

Re: Early 7mm Mag BDL? Pics added

Maybe, but the pad is a Remington pad, I suppose they could have reused it or gotten another from the factory. Was there a custom shop in 1963?

Re: Early 7mm Mag BDL? Pics added

It has a hinged floorplate but no forend and grip cap, it has a Remington ventilated pad with white line spacer and a nice fiddleback Monte Carlo stock, the forend is a bit square in cross section. Original or restock? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hvpcno1/Rem7mmMag/Rem700Rt.jpg http://img....

Re: Model 30/700 stock swap

No, two completely different actions. The only one that would fit is the 720 stock and that is rarer than the M30.

Very impressive. I wish my 14-.35 had the history yours has. Great hunt, congratulations.

Re: Remington 30 Express in .35 Remington

mckinney,

I just got my 30-06 in from the auction and I'm pleased with it. A small chip in the stock and someone tried to skim bed the barrel so I'll have to remove some epoxy but other than that it's pretty good.

My barrel is marked "SPRINGFIELD 30 CAL. 1906" is that how yours is marked?

Re: Early 7mm Mag BDL?

That's correct, no checkering at all but it does have a floorplate. I thought all BDL's were checkered but apparently not.

thanks, Rob

Re: Remington 30 Express in .35 Remington

You might notice that the boltface is way too big for the Rem.35, probably left them at the military spec for the '06, difference of .013. The case head slides to one side so an extractor with more bite is needed.

Re: Remington 30 Express in .35 Remington

Replacing the extractor was straight forward as I remember, I got an unissued P17 one from Gunparts. The one on my gun had been ground too much so it didn't get a good bite on the rim. I put in the new one and all was fine. Pretty much like changing one on a Mauser as I recall. Turn it , then squeez...

Re: Remington 30 Express in .35 Remington

I agree, that's what attracted me to this one in particular, a bit of vintage American rifle without the G&H price tag. I have been looking for another one in the 3 years since I got this one, I had one sent to me from a dealer but it was totally buggered up. Just last Thursday I got my '06 at a...

Re: Remington 30 Express in .35 Remington

No idea. I would think 30-06 was most common. I have a 30-06 on the way that's like yours.

Early 7mm Mag BDL? Pics added

I have an older M700, must be one of the earlier 7mm as the s/n is 82916 and the barrel code is ADK (1963?).

The barrel is blued but is marked STAINLESS STEEL, it has a floorplate and Remington ventilated pad but no checkering.

Is this one of the early BDL's?

thanks,

Rob

Re: Remington 30 Express in .35 Remington

I also have an .35 Rem. 30S Express with the Lyman rear but mine was D&T'd, maybe from the factory as apparently that was an option. I found the Buehler mount fit the holes and put an older 4X Kahles on it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/hvpcno1/Rem%2030/5bbcb37c.jpg http://img.photobuck...

WTB Front sight hoods for 30S

I don't use them much and apparently not many people did as all of my vintage commercial guns are missing them. The ones for Winchester are easy to find but I now own two Remington M30's sans sight hoods. OLD GUNSIGHTS lists it as a proprietary banded ramp sight made by Remington, anyone know where ...
