REMINGTON SCOREMASTER BARREL MARKINGS
SOMEONE HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE BARREL MARKING OF "AK" DESIGNATES THE MANUFACTURING DATE OF MARCH, 1941 AND THAT THE SYMBOL OF THE "ANCHOR" IS A FINAL INSPECTION STAMP. APPARENTLY THERE IS NO CONNECTION WITH A MILITARY CONTRACT. CAN ANYONE ELSE VERIFY THIS?
Jimbow,
The code of AK is March 1941 and the anchor was used as an inspectors symbol. The only problem is, how sure are you that the gun was purchased in 1939, about two years before it left the factory? Could the "K" have been misread when it is a poorly stamped "H" which is the code for 1939? Or is 1939 just a guess as to the purchase date?

THE MARKINGS ARE CLEARLY "AK". THE RIFLE IS STILL IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A WEDDING GIFT TO MY FATHER (NOW DECEASED) FROM MY UNCLE (ALSO NOW DECEASED). IT WAS BRAND NEW WHEN GIVEN. MY FATHER WAS MARRIED IN JULY OF 1940. I WAS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION IT WAS GIVEN PRIOR TO THE WEDDING. IT NOW APPEARS IT WAS GIVEN AS A POST-WEDDING GIFT. IF THE "AK" MARKING DEFINES THE DATE OF MANUFACTURE, THEN THE VERBAL FAMILY HISTORY OF THE RIFLE HAS JUST BEEN CHANGED. THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION!
