Remington Model 700
I have a Remington model 700 chambered in 270 Winchester. I am trying to decode when it was manufactured and any other information from the serial number. Stamped on the barrel is an hourglass then “WN” “96” then serial number. I also am trying to determine value. Thanks in advanced for any information.

Re: Remington Model 700
I am hardly the authority on build codes but "W" is for August and "N" was used for the year in 1922, 1966 & 1993. Hope that helps??

I'll narrow it down a little further for ya.......
The "C" prefix for the serial number means it was made after about 1985.
They started putting alpha prefixes to the serial numbers in about 1975 and incremented them at about 5 year intervals.

Also, we don't do "values" on the forum. Too many variables and no way to physically inspect the firearm. It's only "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it at the time.

Re: Remington Model 700
You're very welcome, Jim.
My collection/accumulation of firearms (many Remingtons) allows me to verify this serial number variation first hand.
Take care and stay well.
