model 30 express no barrel date

Post by dix2111 »

I just got a new model 30 express in .30 (1906) and I am a little confused on the barrel date. Actually it has none. I removed it fromthe stock and looked all over so I am certain it doesnt have one.
I have other model 30's to compare it with but this is the earliest one.
Serial number is 7**9
Cocks on opening
Hand grove on stock and snauble??? tip.
All the other proof marks and stamps are clear and it shows no sign of having been refinished.
Does anyone know why it wouldn’t have a barrel date?

I also have a later one in .25 Remington that is stamped as having been returned to the factory 3 months after being produced ( in 1934)
The only obvious modifications are a scope block installed(very well done) and a ramped front sight that appears to be sweated on and with stippling on the front of the ramp( also well done)
Has anyone else seen this style of front sight?

Last question,
I have a .32 Remington model 30 with a "W.U" barrel date code. One reference has it dated in 1927 and another has it dated in 1971. I am certain it is 1927 but did they use the "u" for 2 different years.

Sorry for the barrage of questions but I just started getting interested in these 2 days ago and I'm finding these things fascinating
