Need help dating a .22cal #2 Rolling Block please

Post by vepr762 »

I know it's pre-1898, but was curious if someone here could give me a closer DOM. The serial number is 175xx.

It hasn't arrived yet, but the seller did say that the front sight does not appear to be original. It's a gold bead. What is the correct front sight?

Thanks

The total production of the No. 2 was approximately 42,800 made between 1872 & 1909. The No. 2 featured a german silver type front blade sight (two piece) that fit in a dovetail. Other sights were available however including those by Beach and others. If your rifle was made after 1889, the barrel should be stamped REMINGTON ARMS CO. If it is pre-1889 it should be stamped E. REMINGTON & SONS. My guess is that it is pre-1889.
