Sportmaster Model 512?

Post by Bullitt_Bret »

I own an old M512 and am trying to locate the date codes.

I looked at the left side of the barrel and it shows four characters – an “L” and two “YY”s and a fourth that is undercernible and almost looks like some sort of proof stamp closest to the receiver. To me it looks like a 4 & a U welded together like a branding iron.

Here's an image.

Thanks in advance.

.

It's right here.......

The "L" indicates February and "YY" indicates 1952.

Thanks Den,

That was just what I was looking for.

BTW it's still a great rifle - like my dad before I'll be passing it down to one of my children soon.

Cheers,

those datecodes on your rifle, does anyone know what that last character represents, the one closest to the receiver? My dad's old model 512 is stamped EK and then that strange character like yours has.

Did you bother to check the link in my previous post?
Click on the line marked "Barrel Code Location Diagram" to get an enlarged picture.

I believe he's looking at the proof/testing stamps and has the date code figured out. Those stamps indicate that testing has been done and by whom. I have some listing of those but not for 1952.
