I have an Octagon barrel Model 12 with serial number 33XXX that has the marking 22 Long Rifle on the barrel. I know the early 12s were advertised as Long Rifle but I have never seen one marked with just LR. All of my 12s except my Bs and my CS are marked with "short, long, or long rifle" Is this unusual? Any insight would be great.
Model 12 "22 Long Rifle" only ???
Re: Model 12 "22 Long Rifle" only ???
Rem M/12s were stamped LONG RIFLE ONLY in 1909 and up to mid-1910. The change was done before serial #51,277, although Rem had a habit of phasing in the changes so it's possible that not all late-1910 rifles had the caliber change. There should be several other features on your rifle that are different from later production. There are twenty-three pages on the M/12 in our book so all changes can't be listed here..

On Same subjest , I have a model 12 serial 25218 , That says (.22 long rifle) ,does it use LR only or can I use shots?? Thanks,

Yours is mid-1910. I would not shoot shotshells in it. Did you mean Shorts? If so, I might try low velocity shorts but not many and not the new hi-vel stuff.

Re: Model 12 "22 Long Rifle" only ???
I have a Model 12 with a 4 digit serial number under 5000. The barrel is round and is stamped 22 long rifle and the fill tube insert appears to be steel and not brass. From what I am reading in this thread the barrel appears correct marked as 22 long rifle, but I am not sure since mine does have a round barrel and not an octagon barrel. Thank you in advance for any information.
