I have a Model 700 222 Rem and have been trying to find the date of manufacture. It has a serial number of B6255376, however, where there should be a date code on the left side of the barrel, there is only the number twelve, there is no final inspector symbol or month and year letter. I do not believe it has a replacement barrel because it has "REMINGTON ARMS CO. INC. ILION, N.Y. MADE IN U.S.A. 222 REM." midway down the left side of the barrel. My question is there any way to date the rifle without the date codes that are described at https://www.remingtonsociety.org/manufacture-dates/
Thanks in advance for any help.

Without a "date code" there's no way to pin down the month and year, but the "B" serial number prefix indicates it was made in the early half of the 1980s. That's probably about as close as you're going to get.

Re: Model 700 222 Rem no date code?
Using a cleaning rod, measure the barrel length from the front of the bolt in the closed position to the muzzle and let us know that dimension. The serial number, although definitely NOT an exact science, indicates build date in the last quarter of the year 1980.

Oh. So the long barreled lower caliber. Nice. I thought I'd seen your serial number on your posting! Must have been another as I though it had a "C" prefix.sgg wrote:sept. 1962 !!! i think that was the first year remington made the 700s

Re: Model 700 222 Rem BDL
dose any one know what ADL and BDL stand for on a rem 700 .222 cal. ?
Re: Model 700 222 Rem BDL

Do a Google search on "Remington rifles ADL BDL CDL" and start picking through the links.
Hint: It's an acronym "grade naming" system. A-Deluxe, B-Deluxe and C-Deluxe.
