760C in .280 Rem.

I have procured a 760C in .280 Rem. and I am curious as to how many were manufactured . This thing is mint , if I had the box I think I could call it new , it appears to be unfired . The lady I got it from bought it new as a Christmas gift to her husband , who has since passed on . She didn't seem to think he ever used it , as he was a Winchester guy . There was a period correct box of ammo with it , and it's full . Manufactured 2/60 .
He also had (she still has) 2 Model 94 Carbines in .32 Win. Special one a 1937 the other 1941 . She also has a Rem. Model 81 in .35 Rem. . All of these were purchased new by her father (the 1937 94) or her husband .

I picked one of these up a month ago at a gun show in Michigan. Since MI is rifle country for deer, it made sense that there could be a 760C lurking around someplace, and I was lucky enough to find it on a dealer's table. He only slightly knew what he had and I ended up getting it for a fraction of the current market value (according to GB and such). Since then, I have purchased two other 760C's from 1960-1961 time frame with the old-style tootsie roll wood. I bought a .30-06 model at another MI show for $275 and was lucky enough to stumble on to another gentlemen in the parking lot of yet another show and bought his .280 Rem Carbine. Now, I am truly lucky to be the proud owner of the .280 and three .30-06's. The .270 thus far has eluded me.

I have these rifles sighted in at 150 yards and will hunt with them next season without a doubt. In spite of having legitimate cash offers for my .280, it is not for sale. I just hope I get the chance to finish off the collection of 760 Carbines.

So then, according to this same book, how may .270 Carbine rifles were made in the tootsie roll style wood from 1960-1963?

Also, even though Remington changed the rear sight in 1960 to the screw-on style, my .280 Carbine has a dovetail rear sight. Does this mean that the barrel was actually made prior to 1960 but not installed on the rifle (and barrel stamped) until 1960?

Digging out my copy of Gene Myszkowski's excellent book again, we find that 2570 "C" carbines were made from 1960-1963 in 270. CDL carbines were made from 1961-1963, and 418 of those were made in 270. In his book, a 760 C grade carbine is pictured with the buckhorn rear sight as you seem to refer to. Under it in the text is the notation that "the buckhorn sight is incorrect as production carbines were equipped with the new base mounted step and windage adjustable rear sight." Anyone willing to take a green horn to school on 760 carbines please do I actually do own one in 308 but information on these is pretty much non existant and it is easier to find a virgin unicorn than a copy of genes book blieve me I have tried.
