Remington 552 manufacture codes

Post by jwkolb »

New here, so trying to figure it out. I have a Remington 552 Pre 1968 (no S/N) with the code GKJP on the left side of barrel. Is the KJ or JP the date code. J would mean 1962, or P would mean 1967. Which could it be?

From the barrel code chart, you need a two-letter date code. The letters need to be adjacent. The first is the month and the next is the year.

From the chart, "G" is not a valid month code and neither is "J".
So, that narrows down the two letters to "K J".
May of 1962 should be the date from your description.
