M760

Post by Ted »

Just got off the phone with Jim Peterson who indicated that he was certain my question re. when 760's were first factory d&t would be answered if I posted in the forum. Would date code DA (Sept. '54) be factory drilled and tapped for both receiver sight and scope mounts?
Thanks

My 300 Savage was built in 1953 (ZZ)(can't remember the month, later in the year though) and it is drilled and tapped for both scope and receiver sites. I read somewhere that first year and into the 2nd year (18 months worth IIRC) were NOT D&T'd.

Just checked again and mine was assembled in September of '53. Oddly, I also just realized that it doesn't have an inspectors stamp. Does yours have one elmo?

Just picked up a 760 ADL manu Jun 1953. Saw elsewhere here (not on forum - in newsletter section) where Jun '53 was first month/year of the ADL and that it was drilled and tapped. Mine is. Not sure that is/was the start of the drill/tap, but at least goes back that far.

Crazy thing is, the rifle has a Griffin and Howe detachable side mount. No clue/logic why when it was factory D&T. Maybe owner had the mount, I don't know...
