Model 14...

Post by Plain Old Dave »

Got into one right a while back, and finally shot it. I am very impressed. Elegant rifle, and deadly accurate. Was zapping pop bottles and clay pigeons at 50 yards first shot with mid-1960s vintage R-P ammo. Had almost forgot that Remington had annealing problems back then, but there it is.

It's a 1921 vintage 14 in .30 Rem. Has the tall front sight and some sort of aftermarket rear buckhorn sight with a reversible insert. Being a target shooter, I leave the smaller notch in place. Looking forward to some woodsloafing this fall with this stylish, elegant old rifle.

We DO reload, so while factory ammo IS nice, I don't really need any. I say we, as I am the third in the group I hunt in to get a Model 14 in .30. One has the factory sight, one has the peep sight that goes on the tang, and mine has this buckhorn rear sight.

Noticed a couple seasoning cracks up in the wrist, right where the Model 14 stocks are known to crack. Any recommendations as to a particular epoxy to repair this with?
