Hello,
I have a Remington model 12 and need help classifying it. It seems to lack the standard attributes that other sites use to classify. The serial is RW 19631. It is closest related to the styling to a 12A. It has a round barrel, plastic butt stock, and standard rifle sights on top of the barrel. On the left side of the barrel it is stamped ".22 long rifle" and doesn't have the "Remington trademark". The barrel code is W over a S vertically. If any other details are needed just ask. Please enlighten me with any information you can.

Re: Remington Model 12 Questions
Your M/12-A was made in 1910. The letters you mentioned are not a date code. They are inspector/proof/testing stamps. The date codes were not used until 1921. The long tang configuration on the butt stock, rear sight and caliber stamp of "Long Rifle" are correct for 1910 production. Please use only standard velocity ammo if you shoot it.
Re: Remington Model 12 Questions
Thanks for the quick reply. With the low serial and earlier production date, would this specific rifle be among the rarer of the model 12's?
Re: Remington Model 12 Questions
I had a two digit serial # M/12 and only received a slight premium when I sold it. Yours appears to be in good condition and does not appear to have any added parts. The butt plate should not have UMC stamped with the Rem stamp. From the photos it looks like yours may have been reblued. If so, the collector value would decrease significantly.
Re: Remington Model 12 Questions
It is the original butt plate and am not sure if it was re-blued. Other firearms I've received from my passed away grandfather were also in immaculate condition so I wouldn't be surprised if it were the original bluing. I can't wait to see how it looks and shoots after I've given it a deep cleaning and maintenance. I have no intention of ever selling any inherited firearms and prefer to pass them down. Thank you again for your help.
