Model 8 help Winchester marked?

I am in possession of a Remington model 8 chambered for .25rem.
On the left side of the receiver, it is engraved, "W.R.A. Co. 6-15-08"
Is it possible that this rifle was owned by Winchester Repeating Arms?
The serial number is 149xx

The engraving on mine is just above the horizontal line. There is also a circled W on the underside.
I will post a few photos tomorrow.

Never could understand why someone would cover a serial number up, did you steal it?

Love the comment on the serial, never could understand the value in doing that! Interesting piece, that Model 8!

I think that that model 8 was probably owned by Winchester at one time. It makes sense to me that competitors would want to keep abreast of what the competition was doing. I keep databases on some of the Remington slide actions offered and have run across a 141R owned and marked by Winchester. It seems that there was a 14 or 25 also marked but I can't find it in my files at the moment, they consisting of information on around 3500 guns........tom
