Where are all the 14R cabines?

Post by Levallois »

Hi folks,

I've owned and loved model 8s and 14s for a while now. I even owned a 14 1/2 in 44-40 that I foolishly let slip away. Currently, I've been on the lookout for a 14R and I can't find one in any caliber. Seems to me they are more scarce than the 14 1/2s? Does anyone know how many of the 14Rs were made? Thank you for your time.

Your July 7,2004 inquiry on the number of carbines was never answered and, while you may well have gotten an answer in the years since, I thought I would give you one at this late date. The only records that have surfaced are for the years 1923-1934 and they list 1218 carbines made while the total for rifles was 36412. A breakdown for those years lists by caliber, 318 35s, 183 32s, 620 30s, and 97 25s. I hope this answers your question after all these years.....Tom H

Tom,

I see them every once in a while but very rare and pricey. The numbers you provided underline why. Thanks! Hope all is well.

that explains why i see more 30's and few 35's. i snag them up when i see them reasonably, which is seldom anymore. they are the slickest sporting arms out there in my opinion.

I posted yesterday about my 14R with thumbnail safety and 13 boxes of 30 Remington ammo. I am thinking about parting with it because I'm moving and have too many guns, but didn't realize what I might have since it is a carbine with the weird safety and all. Anyway, the thread is "Model 14 with ammo - Didn't know what I had". I'm still trying to value this gun.

Well, I just put a VERY nice .32 14R on Gunbroker for anyone interested, and will put up some others in the months to come. There are still some nice ones out there but they are as Hemphill put it, pretty rare, and hard to find. The one I posted for sale is for a friend who like many of us is getting out of collecting and selling off some inventory.

Again, I didn't start this thread but just listed a lovely 95%+ 14R with TNS on Gunbroker in .30 Caliber. Selling it for a friend and will be listing some others.
