Model 12 Variant and dating

Post by bill65 »

I have my father's Model 12 with the following: serial #439611, round barrel with exposed length 22 1/4", barrel marked .22 short, long or long rifle, last pederson's patents date April 6, 12, pistol grip, curved metal butt plate marked Remington UMC Trademark, Lyman peep sight (missing the target aperture it used to have when I was young), and a rectangular sling ring approx. 1 5/8" x 1/2" that looks to be brazed to the cartridge tube at about a 20 degree rearward angle. The tube itself is brass. Can you help identify my worn but personally meaningful rifle? Thanks.

My typo...the correct exposed barrel length is 21 1/4". Thanks again, Bill

It sounds like you have a 12-A. You say you have a pistol grip and a crescent butt plate. Those did not ussually come on the 12-As. Possibly been replaced or maybe ordered that way from time of purchase. The sling swivel did not come factory.
