Actually, Remington's own site says APPROXIMATELY 832,000.
Even though it also says this:
Serial Number Blocks:
Starting: 00001
Ending: 820,759

However, you can figure out for yourself when it was made from the barrel date codes.

Please let us know what you find out.

John Gyde or one of the other Mdl. 12 gurus may be along to give their thoughts on that.

thanks, although now i'm even more confused as there are no barrel numbers. so going by the info from remington this model 12 is pre 1921.

it has a remington UMC butt plate, so i've narrowed it down to between 1916 and 1921

Rem used UMC markings on all late M/12s. They did not end in 1921. Your rifle should have a barrel code indicating month/year of production. The highest serial # I have records of is 831,747.

Yours was probably made in 1935. The second letter of the barrel code is a "D" if the 1935 date is correct.

this weapon is in good, to very good condition and i find no barrel code. unless the barrel code is hidden under the pump action, which i'm not taking off.
thats kinda why i thought it may be pre 1921. Its just another thing i wished i'd talked with my grandfather about before he died. they leave this earth with so much info we take for granted.

Like John said as well. Your 12 was made in the first few months of 1935. Production continued threw 1936.
