I see a lot on a SxS, but not single barrel. I have been trying to get some information on a 12 gauge, single barrel, serial #122357, "Remington Fire Arm Co." & "Ilion NY USA" stamped on the stock....on one side it also has three dates, Oct 30 1894, 16 1903 (has the word "Patented" beside this date), and June 28 1904, the hammer cocking mechanism is on the left side, ....Is this a mdel 1894?

The Remington Model 1893 Single Barrel Shot Gun also known as the No. 3 was originally introduced in 12-, 16- and 20-gauge. By the 1899 Remington Arms Co. catalogue 10-, 24- and 28-gauges were added to the offerings. In the 1902 catalogue the full line of No. 3s was still offered, but a new gun with an automatic ejector was introduced in 12- and 16-gauge called the Remington 1902 Model Single Barrel Shotgun, and it was also called the No. 9. By the 1903-04 catalogue the No. 9 was being offered in 10-, 12-, 16-, and 20-gauges while they were still offering the No. 3 in 24- and 28-gauges. By the 1904-05 catalogue the No. 9 was being offered in all six gauges and the No. 3 was no longer offered. By the 1906 catalogue the odd gauges had been dropped and the No. 9 was being offered in 12-, 16-, and 20-gauges. The No. 9 remained through the 1909 Remington Arms Co. catalogue. In February of 1910 the Remington Arms Co. sold their entire inventory of break action shotguns, singles and doubles, to Norvell-Shapleigh Hardware Co. of St Louis and bet their future on their Remington Autoloading Gun and their Remington Repeating Gun soon to become known as the Model 11 and the Model 10.

The No. 3 took down by means of a removable forearm with a "Purdey" style pushbotton on the tip. The No. 9 took down by means of a removable hinge pin.

I believe we are both searching for information on this same single barrel shotgun. This one has:
"REMINGTON ARMS CO"
"ILION N.Y. U.S.A"
"PAT OCT 30, 1984"
stamped on the top of the pistol grip. I do not see any other numbers on it.
This is not a rifle, it is a handheld, pistol grip, with the hammer mechanism on the left side as well. I read your post explaining the 1893 model, so what I understand is that ALL single barrel shotguns from that time are "No.3's" , which make them ALL model "1893", but to make it clear, does the "PAT OCT 30, 1984" make it the manufactured date of 1894? What does "PAT OCT 30, 1894" represent? I have searched all over the internet and I cannot find a pistol grip single barrel anywhere. Any idea what it might be worth? Is yours a pistol grip handheld as well?

Remington had two patents that were issued on the same day, October 30, 1894. Both actually pertain to Remington Hammerless Doubles. No. 528,507 pertaining to the milling of the frame was granted to R. C. Fay of Ilion, New York, assignor to the Remington Arms Company of same place; and No. 528,508 pertaining to the automatic ejectors, to R.C. Fay and G.E. Humphreys of Ilion, New York, assignor to the Remington Arms Company of same place.

Remington may well have perceived some connection between one of these patents and their single-barrel shotguns as well.

If you have a shotgun that has been cut down into a pistol you may very well have something that is illegal.
