1889 2 3/4 in chambers, huh?

Post by doubleman »

well i was tinkering with my new 1889, and i dropped a 2 3/4 shell in and
it fit. i know these were made with 2 5/8 chambers. ive heard that some 89s were made with 2 3/4 chambers and called trap guns, is this what i have. i felt the rear of the chambers and there definitly not been tampered with so i suspect that it was made with these chambers.
are "trap" guns more valuable?

2 3/4 shells will fit fine in a 2 5/8 chamber it's that they will not open all the way up when fired. You have to get a chamber gauge and find out the size of the chamber. You can't do it with shells. I don't know about trap guns. I have never seen anything on it . or an 89 identified as a trap gun? I have seen the 89 opened up to 2 3/4 by reaming out the forcing cone.
