shotgun RB's info! ?

Post by in-action-man »

With all previous info found here and within your answers. I have found that what I have is a 20 gauge RB made prior to 1870. It is a #1 with a rotary extractor. Barrel is a smooth bore that was possibly made from a civil war barrel( has a dovetail for sight on underside) The breech is concave where the barrel is inserted. I'm getting info from various sites you have recommended for a new barrel( mine was cut down) and a rear trigger spring.
With all the info I've found, I'm curious if there was just not many shotguns made around this time, or just not many left? Almost all info is on the various RB rifles. My serial # on the housing is j2513 the trigger housing is 2513 and the barrel has a 13 on the side close to the breech. The only other markings are on the barrel underside that has a HP. The pat. dates are the norm, with no manufactures etc..
All the info has been helpful, just wanted to say thanks. If there is anything else someone knows about these that would be great
