Post Need info on shotgun
My father in law just gave me a Remington automatic shotgun that he thought was over 100 years old. I could find no dates anywhere except patent dates of 1901-02-03. The only number I could find was stamped into the shell receiver and that number is 95380. Is this an important number? If so, does anyone have any info on this shotgun?
Thanks

Sounds like you may have a John M. Browning designed Remington Autoloading Gun which was introduced in 1905. If the company name on the gun is Remington Arms Co. it was made before 1911. In 1911 the company name was changed to Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Co. and during those years they began calling this gun the Model No. 11. In 1920 the company name changed again to Remington Arms Co., Inc.

Thanks for the info, the only markings on the shotgun except what I think is the serial number is the following stamping located on the top of the barrel:
Manufactured by the Remington Arms Co, Ilion. N.Y. U.S.A.
Browings patents Oct.9.1900.Dec.17.01.Sept.30.02.June 16.03.
Where could I go to get info on this model, and is this considered a Model 11?
Finally, there is a rubber shock pad on the end of the stock. Is this original or has it been added. It has "Red Head" stamped on it.
Thanks again for your help,
L.J.

The Red Head recoil pad is definately after market. There is a good article on these guns in The Remington Society Journal, for the 2nd quarter of 2000. Search around the web site and you can find how to order a copy. Your gun is essentially the same gun as the later Model 11, but I consider them what they are -- the Remington Autoloading Gun.
