Does anyone shoot a Model 17

Post by sxsman1 »

Does anyone here shoot a model 17?
If so, do you like it? How does it compare with the Ithaca 37?
I have been shooting the 17 off and on for the last two or three years and I really like it.
I was wondering if I'm alone, or are there other model 17 lovers?

I have five of them, including a "F" grade. They are great guns designed by John Browning.

I purchased the B version of the 17 earlier this year and love it.

It points and swings effortlessly. I just traded a 16 and 12 gauge Ithaca 37 for a Remington Model 11 B with a Cutts Compensator made in 1940. The Ithaca's never really blew my skirt up, IMHO.

Easy to take down and clean up.

I shot my field grade when I want a change from the usual SxS's, a light gun to carry. Mine is a 2 barrel set, both solid rib and numbered to the gun, a 26" MOD and a 28" FULL.

Last year I was finally able to get my hands on this E grade, it took about 6 years to get the owner to sell it. It's on my list of projects for restoration, make a nice grouse gun. There's some figured wood under that grime...

Very nice. I would love to see the after pictures. Please post them in the future.

I certainly will but it may be years. I am not going to do a total rehab but rather a good cleanup of the wood and metal, have the screws fixed and shoot it.
