Post by 31man »

I just acquired a Remington model 17 20 gauge. The gun has a 32" barrel with a vent rib by Simmons.Gun is in great condition about 85-90%. I was wondering what this guns value is and what year it was manufactured with a serial of bo96xx?

The 32-inch barrel is a rather scarce variation on the Model 17, but it was available in every Remington Arms Co., Inc. catalogue that offered the Model 17, 1921 to 1933. Early catalogues listed "Remington Steel barrel, 26, 28, 30 or 32 inches.". Later catalogues listed "Standard length barrel 28 inch; also furnished in 26, 30 or 32 inch." In that the gun has been fitted with a Simmons vent rib which includes rebluing the gun, any "collector" value has been lost, leaving the gun a nice $300 shooter. The old between the wars factory ledger, available on this web site, is missing the first page of Model 17 serial numbers. The second page begins with Jan 19, 1926 at 35637.
