Questions about a friend's Model 29
Questions about a friend's Model 29
Hey everyone, new member here. I have some questions about my model 29. There is some custom engraving and a custom recoil pad that I have confirmed with Remington are from the factory. Also, someone engraved an 8 at the end of the serial number 11494 to make it look like 114948. I've learned that there were only 38000 or so made so it is an obvious fake. Also, it is apparently missing a stamp that the Model 29s received at the end of the assembly line, leading me to believe it was either stolen or taken for a Remington or close friend. What do you think?

What you appear to have is the receiver of a Model No. 10D "Tournament" Grade gun from the mid-teens --
that has perhaps had a Model 29 barrel fitted to it. The Model 29 had a crossbolt safety behind the trigger.

It could possibly be a 10T-D.
I can not see the forearm or the top of the receiver so I can not be sure, but the rib appears to be of that style.

Too early a serial number for a vent ribbed Model No. 10.

picture of the whole gun. Any Idea what it may be worth or how to find out? Thanks for the info so far.

There won't be any information an a "Blue Book" on the value of a gun cobbled together from parts. A nice original Model No. 10D "Tournament" Grade would have "collector" value. A gun with a non-original barrel, a non-original stock, and an out of period recoil pad has no "collector" value. The complicated
John D. Pedersen designed Model 10 has little value as a shooter, as once they wear and get out of time, parts for repair are unobtainable, and there is no one left alive with the ability to make one right. I can see this gun languishing in the pawn shops in my area with a $300 price tag on it.
