Help Dating Remington "UMC" 12 gauge shotgun
Looking at my grandfather's shotgun and became curious as to when it was made. The markings show Remington UMC and have serial number U1711XX. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Help Dating Remington "UMC" 12 gauge shotgun
Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. (1911 to 1916) and Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Inc. (1916 to 1920) made two shotguns, the 12-gauge John M. Browning designed Model No. 11 autoloading shotgun, and the John D. Pedersen designed Model No. 10 12-gauge pump gun. I seem to recall that the Model No. 10 pump had the U stock letter. If so, your gun would be from the summer of 1919. The old factory ledger, available on this web sight, begins on September 30, 1919, at serial number 172,939 for Model No. 10s.
