Sixteen gauge Frame Size used in making Model 31 Shotguns

Post by ODHL8103 »

I'm new to the forum, and have a 16 gauge Model 31 coming from a gunbroker.com dealer. Does anyone know if Remington made a special frame size for their 16 gauge guns in this model ? I'm told they used the 12 gauge frame for the 870. I believe Winchester used a 16 gauge frame for the Model 12, as did Ithaca for the Model 37. I find it interesting that between the discontinuation of their 1900 side by side and the Model 31, Remington did not make a 16 gauge pump shotgun ? If they made 16 gauge in the Model 11 semi, was it a dedicated frame size ?

Thanks for weighing in...

The Remington Model 11 and the "Sportsman" had a dedicated 16-gauge frame. In the Model 31 the 16- and 20-gauge were both built on the same frame, with serial numbers beginning at 500000.
