1148 frame sizes

Post by ODHL8103 »

I'm interested in knowing whether Remington used more than one frame size for the various 1148 gauge guns. I'm specifically interested in the 16 gauge guns. Remington.com states that the 1148 model (mechanically identical to the model 11/Sportsman?) was lighter in weight than comparable Model 11's. Researcher states that the 16 and 20 gauge frames for the Model 11/Sportsman were scaled to the gauge...so was this feature carried forward in the new streamlined version of the Browning long recoil patent ? I haven't found any information on comparable weights in the Model 11 and Model 1148 guns.

Appreciate comments from Remington researchers..

I believe 12, 16, and 20 were all on the same size receiver. 28 and 410 were smaller receiver.

There are three frame sizes for the 11-48: 12,16/20 and 28/410.

Maybe there were more than that. A buddy has a 16 and it is on a 12 sized receiver.

I just dug through the gun safe and pulled out a 12 and a 16. The 16 receiver is shorter and narrower than the 12. That is not to say that there were not changes along the way.

That's what I meant. I was never much into 11-48s, but my friend has a 12, a 16, and a 28. I never knew they made a 16 on a different frame. He was cleaning them one time and we were talking, and he got the 12 and 16 trigger groups accidentally switched. Didn't work too well.
