28 gauge in 11-48

Post by ODHL8103 »

Remington.com states that Remington made 28 gauge single shot guns over a century ago (Model 1893 and Model 9 (1902), but their first 28 gauge repeater appears to be the Model 11-48. Does anyone know what year they introduced 28 gauge in that model ? Anyone know any specifics about the gun ? An earlier post response suggested that Remington made the 28 gauge and 410 on a smaller frame than the larger bores, and a gun for sale was listed as 6.2 lbs, suggesting a weight appropriate for the gauge.

Thanks,

Per Remington: Introduced 1949, discontinued 1968. 455,535 produced, of which of which approximately 18,000 were 28 gauges. Doesn't say when introduced but researcher might know. The 28 is on the smaller sized receiver, my buddy has one. I haven't miked it, but it appears to be the same size as the current 20, 28, & 410 Model 1100 receivers.
What could have happened... did.

Thanks, Virginian. A friend of mine, a life long Remington fan, just called and told me that Remington started making the 11-48 in 28 gauge in 1952, and the 410 in '54. Think he got the info from a Gun Digest reference.

He also suggested that there was a flaw in the 11-48 design which resulted in a part failing prematurely, and that the part was not readily available. Can anyone confirm or deny that there is an issue with these guns which would give a prospective buyer pause before he made a purchase ?

Thanks for your input, gentlemen.
