My new Remington 32

Post by Dave C »

Just picked this up from an older fellow. A Remington Model 32. I am looking for some info on grades ( 32A,S,TC etc) and how they are arrived at for the gun.
It's a low serial 600 gun. Double trigger, upper barrel is full, lower is modified. I have attached some low quality pics There isn't a whole lot of info available on the web for these. I bought this with the intention of shooting trap on a pretty regular basis with it but so far have got to the club. I am new to any OU with a double trigger. Any good advice on the care and feeding?

My might want to send some very good pictures to Remington. I talked with them, and they told me their records show the #'s started with 1001, but I told them I know who has #32 Model 32. They also told me that they made 903 the 1st year. If you see any of the old literature, they note the dbl trigger, and say they will be replaced by a single trigger on future guns, and replaced for a small fee on the early guns. I have 4 32's, the earliest being #15##, made in 1934, and the youngest #49##, made in 1942.

You might contact Larry Del Greco, in Ilion,NY. Read up on his family, they have a great rep.

Remington contact info is:

Let me know what you find out. Always looking for 32 info.

The Remington Model 32A "Standard" Grade was the field gun. The Model 32TC "Target Grade was the trap gun with a vent rib --

and the Model 32S "Trap Special" was the trap gun with a solid rib. The Model 32 Skeet Gun was the entry-level skeet gun. Most of these could be ordered in the higher D "Tournament", E "Expert" and F "Premier" Grades.

From what I can see in the pictures, the vent rib on the gun in question doesn't appear to be an original Remington vent rib. Doesn't look like a Simmons either.

Wonder who has this guy's Model 32 now?

I'd be willing to bet that Mr. Gable's Model 32 came through Alex Kerr's in Beverly Hills --

and that the recoil pad on it is a Fray-Mershon with Kerr's logo --

Model 32s did not start at serial number 1001. With those big square posts, the rib is probably an early Moneymaker rib, the best of the best.

You saw it? Tell us about it. Who owned it when you saw it? OK, I misunderstood, but still, tell us about the article.

I had seen this mentioned (Clark Gable's 32 hi-grade from hollywood starlet as a gift as well as a hi-grade parker gifted from same female) in more than one publication, magazine's, etc. over the years. I believe it also is mentioned in one of Mcintosh's "BEST GUNS" books if i am not mistaken...... will look thru over 35 years of collecting of notes (phone conversations, etc.)and articles and update when located. Never saw a picture of the item's mentioned, just read and was told about them over the phone from collector's. The one 32-F i still regret passing on over the years, is the Ernie Simmon's Sr. 32-F (all gauge) 4 barrel skeet set that was purchased out of Ernie's estate, along with the last 21 ordered buy him in the 1960's, by Dave Parker (owner @ that time) of the Olathe (Ks.)Gun Shop. Parker put those two items out on display in his store after the estate sale, and i would frequent that location every month just to see what he had in new, and wow what a 32-F that item is, and you talk about balanced, perfection to say the least. I still have parker's business card with the serial # (4xxx) of the gun written on the back with its description, as he offered to sell it to me at that visit. Needless to say i balked and another 32 collector in kansas city area purchased it, according to the other prominent gun store employees in kansas city area in those days at C&R Gun Specialty owned by Dick Shelton. I will sift through material and update.......
