Engraved Model 31

Post by hawk46 »

I cannot upload a pic so I can only ask my question: I have a pristine 1937 Model 31 that is game scene engraved. The engraving is signed by R.W. Baird and looks similar to E grade engraving I've seen on other older Remingtons. I'm trying to determine if this might be a factory engraving job. Any help appreciated. Dave

The Remington Model 31 was made from 1931 to 1949. The Remington Factory engravers during this period were: J. Loy, Anda Hardy, R. R. Runge, R. P. Runge, C. Ennis, J Caswell. The documents found in the Remington Archives do not mention a R. W. Baird as a factory engraver. Normally during the prewar period Remington factory engravers did not sign their work. A quick check of Wilson's books on engraved arms did not turn up R. W. Baird.

Thank you Gene. Nice engraving job but done over the Remington name and model number so must be aftermarket.
